The Best of Everything - Jean Negulesco (1959)

In Mad Men (the series), they compare the book and the film. The book is supposed to be "dirtier". The film is in cinemascope and you can see New York exactly as it was back in fifty nine. Because it was nineteen fifty nine. And you can learn that Mad Men is nicely set in those years or at least that they took this picture as a model. The main character is played by the nowadays forgotten Hope Lange and with the initial credits Johnny Mathis (quite forgotten as well) sings a song (you guess... forgotten). A quote about love: "Those who can, do; those who can't, teach". Joan Crawford plays a hard woman. Those were the days.
