Burning The Days - James Salter

James Horowicz was educated in West Point during World War Two and afterwards became a fighter pilot who serviced in Korea. He was still in the Army when he published a novel under this pen name, Salter.  Some forty years later an editor asked him to write about his life and here we are the result. Not an autobiography estrictly speaking, but a memoir about two subjects: His life as a pilot and the people he met as a screenwriter and novelist. And he's got a gift to do it.

A french classic I have read in an english translation (since I don't read french mon amie). Couldn't have guessed Manon was a girl's name. And a very beautiful one who leads to ruin and damnation her inconditional lover the Chevalier des Grieux. It reminds me of "les liaisons dangereuses", written some fifty years later. Puccini composed an opera.

Beloved - Toni Morrison

We've got here some idea about how it was life for colored people in America not so long ago, just before and after slavery was abolished. I must confess that I don't like too much the author's idea of bringing the lost child to actual flesh. The coming and going in time doesn't help either. Anyway I have enjoyed the fluency of english along the story and the vivid language put in the mouths of the characters.

Se pueden ver

Argo - Ben Affleck (2012). Real story told the way it happened with just a plus of dramatism to achieve the thrill expected.
Liberal Arts - Josh Radner (2012). Romantic comedy with campus and poetry books. Pleasant dialogues too.
All The King's Men - Robert Rossen (1949). An american tale about a once honest man who becomes the governor of the state.
El mal ajeno - Oskar Santos (2010). Entretenido film con hospital e ingrediente fantástico.
