Born in Vietnam, Vuong was taken to Hartford, Connecticut, when he was only two years old. In this novel he tells a good deal of his life, a really hard one, in a kind of long letter addressed to his mother, who probably will not understand most of it due to her poor knowledge of the English language. Trevor, his first love, we could say, is also a very important agent. A rather poetic prose.
