The Zone - Sergei Dovlatov

This is the experience as a camp guard in Komi, in the former USSR, as it was published years later along with some comments written in retrospect. Dovlatov only knows one way of telling things, a way not well considered in Russia in those years, sarcasm, irony, well-tempered prose, and he's good at it.
