The Pole and Other Stories /Three Stories - J. M. Coetzee

There's a link between all the stories: old age. The longest, The Pole, was first published in Spanish (see this very blog) and I think it gets an extra sharpness in English. A recurring character of his, an aging Elizabeth Costello, stars in several of the other narratives. Himself advanced in years, Coetzee keeps writing in a neat, brilliant and illuminating manner.
