Sixteen stories selected by Julian Barnes including the famous The Swimmer and the one of the title. A good deal of them falls into that category of Cheever's characteristic suburban story with conmuters, wives, servants, drinking, visiting neighbors and some general despondency. The last stories are much more cryptic and dreamy.
