The Red Badge of Courage - Stephen Crane

Henry Fleming is an eighteen-year-old boy imbued with some romantic ideas about the war who enlists in the yankee army to fight the rebels. Then reality turns different and he experiences the full range of feelings concerning courage. Crane died young but left good evidence of being a solid writer. I'm looking forward to Auster's book on him.
