So Long, See You Tomorrow - William Maxwell

Published in 1980, it is "an autobiographical metafiction" that tells a story which took place some sixty years earlier in Lincoln, Illinois, the author's hometown. A murder is at the center of the events and we are told about all the circumstances in a series of sensitive and precise pieces of writing. A little gem.
