A Meal in Winter - Hubert Mingarelli

 The narrator is a german soldier, the original language of the novel is french and I have read it in english (an european book before the brexit). The soldier, a reservist, tells us about one freezing day in Poland when he and two other soldier friends are searching for fleeing jews in the snow as a way to avoid shooting them in a death camp. A dreadful dilemma anyway and a moving novel.
