Modernism, they say. T. S. Elliot liked it a lot and wrote an introduction. It's been said too that it is one of the first novels of lesbian literature, Myself, I would call it a text, a piece of free, nearly smothering, prose without a particular aim. The story could have been told in a few pages and everybody would have been fine, I guess. Not my cup of tea.
