Sweet Caress - William Boyd

It was a man in "Any Human Heart" and now it's a woman, Amory Clay, who tells us her life in this novel. A life that swings along the past century. She's incidentally a photographer and a good deal of black and white snapshots help the narrative. Main issues are the men in her life and the disastrous effects of wars upon human beings. Minor issues are the detailed descriptions of pieces of clothing and the unhealthy and ever-present alcoholic drinks and cigarettes. It reads as a sweet caress.
