Novela negra que cumple con un buen número de tópicos del género. El título se refiere a un juego de cartas y no tiene mayor importancia en la trama. Destacaría la impresión de que no hay personajes "buenos". El policía Cobos, que es el narrador, no destaca por su sentido moral. Otra particularidad es el escenario, Puertollano. Si Plinio levantara la cabeza...

The Chidren Act - Ian McEwan

A fine didactic tale about the british law concerning children care. Priority will be always ensuring the child's welfare. We're told about a bunch of representative cases and specially the one about a Jehova's witness. Alongside there's a second half of the novel taking a look to the judge's side, a human being as well.

El ciclista - Tim Krabbe

Basado en experiencias personales Tim Krabbe narra en primera persona cómo vive un ciclista una carrera. Finales de los 70 en el macizo central francés, un supuesto "Tour a Mont Aigoual". Anécdotas ciclistas, algunas leyendas, desarrollos, higos pasos en el bolsillo, toda la épica de este deporte.

Pitch Dark - Renata Adler

Brilliant prose. Adler knows how to tell a story and she does here tell some actually. Only that as a whole it doesn't stand up. Something about leaving a toxic relationship (a married lover), but really not much deepening in that matter.

Bost ipuin luzetxo, adinean aurrera doazen pertsonaiak. Baita narrazio modernoak (hau da, ez da gauza handirik gertatzen), nazioarteko kutsuaz eta bizpahiru kasutan iraganean terrorismoan arituen presentziaz. Ondo idatziak, nere ustez, gustora irakurri ditut.

Dictator - Robert Harris

The third part in a Cicero's life, that comprises roman history preceding the empire; that's Julius Caesar, Pompey and all the old crowd. Taken into account the amount of known news about the period, this is indeed a resume!. And a clever one, with that Tiro figure, the narrator, who depicts characters and deeds in a flowing, pleasant manner.

Biografía del silencio - Pablo d'Ors

"Breve ensayo sobre meditación" subtitula el autor y se ajusta estrictamente al contenido. Importante el silencio para meditar, y supongo que a eso se refiere con la palabra "biografía". Meditar debe de ser bueno, aunque no acabo de ver en qué consiste.

It would have been Ireland and John Ford would have made a movie.

Como la sombra que se va - Antonio Muñoz Molina

Pues el asesino de Martin Luther King pasó unos días en Lisboa... y no hizo nada que no hubiera hecho en cualquier otro lugar (tampoco era de hacer mucho). Muñoz Molina nos lo cuenta, lo engarza con sus propias experiencias (algunas ciertamente íntimas) y lo amplía reconstruyendo el asesinato (que es de lo mejor del libro). Otra novela que a mí se me antoja estrictamente real.
