A New York Times non-fiction bestseller back in 1995 by poet and professor Mary Karr. And memorialist, since she wrote two more books telling about her later life. This one is about her childhood, a difficult one. Alcoholism in the center of the picture with vivid descriptions and humour; this last being the only way to deal with this kind of story. The title refers to the tales her father used to tell.

Normal - Roberto López Herrero

Lo que no es normal es la escabechina que se monta el autor (como suele decir un crítico de cine "el asesino da matarile a todo quisqui"). Eso sí, lo hace en un tono humorístico que se agradece. Los personajes pecan de tópicos pero la novela es amena y tiene sus buenos momentos.

Leaving The Atocha Station - Ben Lerner

A fellowship in Madrid at the right (meaning wrong) moment in 2004. Not that the bombing is the central issue here. The flimsy plot is about the feelings and wanderings of an american student who smokes (spliffs included), writes poems, drinks and fools around with two spanish girls (or women indeed). He appears as a complete cynical (aren't we all somehow?). Pleasant to read.
