This is a sad story, yes. Written in a pleasant, ironic, american, colloquial way in the very voice of one of the characters. It's amazing to read these words echoing from the beginning of the twentieth century but sounding perfectly natural more than a hundred years after; if we consider that all happens in a wealthy environment, that's right. As they say, the rich also cry.
