The Corrections - Jonathan Franzen
It was quite a success when first edited some ten years ago and I can't figure out why the cover of the paperback edition I have managed is so horrible (just a big "C"). Franzen makes me wonder how many words are actually in use in american english. Sure it's a lot. Rich prose, so, and talented metaphores all the time. A midwestern american family whose now grown up three children have moved to the east. Grandma wants a last Christmas altogether. Not a peaceful one she gets...
