Amena narración en primera persona en la que el autor se echa unos pocos años más a la espalda y prefigura su vejez, de alguna manera. Es una voz original que suelta solapadamente grandes verdades. Comparte algo del mejor Millás. Ahora, para mi gusto, se pasa un poco de dubitativo.

O en esa buena noche, en otra traducción del poema de Dylan Thomas. Trata de cómo la enfermedad de su padre condicionó su vida y aprendemos del alma humana en general y de la del autor en particular. Escribe con elegancia y erudición.

They Came Like Swallows - William Maxwell

Maxwell was not even thirty years old when he wrote this luminous novel. A personal experience is the motor of the story, the loss of his own mother in the flu epidemic of 1918. The title is taken from a poem by Yeats. A perfectly suitable reading for current times.

A kind of fragmentary narrative that through a number of independent paragraphs completes a story. Literary impresionism, I guess. The tale is that common one of a relationship, a boy and a girl, love, marriage, a child, another woman... Often enough we hear a brilliant voice in this story.

Romántica historia de amor que, de algún modo, me ha recordado la de los puentes de Madison. La película está servida (y Bergareche es guionista). Los personajes son gente adinerada lejana al común mortal; aunque, claro, no dejan de ser humanos. A pesar de todo tiene muy buenos momentos literarios.

A memoir of the lost and found, is the subtitle. Buechner was a minister of some church but above all, I would say, he was a writer. He was also a collector and tells us about his Magic Kingdom, the library and the desk where he wrote. So we get to know his books, his family and the way he sees life in magnificent prose.
