Piano lessons at the beginning and life lessons all along the way, this is an entertaining novel that narrates the entire life of an Englishman and, incidentally, a brief review of English and German history over the last decades. Quite sensible reflections are issued for our enlightenment.

The Best of Frank O'Connor - Frank O'Connor

An anthology credited by Julian Barnes, who curated and edited the book. O'Connor was a great Irish writer and he meanly wrote stories taken directly from life experience. So the Irish people, including priests, their customs and their conflicts throughout the first half of the 20th century are the center of his narrative.

Bloodbath Nation - Paul Auster

An essay on firearms in the USA and Auster's personal remembrances. The count of deaths by firearms is terrifying, a million and a half in the States since 1967. Here we have his usual solvent prose and a crude recognition of a tragedy that comes from far back in history. The accompanying photographs of desolate places are by Spencer Ostrander.

Thriller español con tres heroínas que se complementan y unos cuantos secundarios entrañables. Guion ingenioso de diálogos ocurrentes y con giros inesperados que al final ya te los esperas. Entretenido, desde luego, pero no le busques tres pies al gato.

The possessed - Alif Batuman

It has a long subtitle that denies the seriousness of the title itself and explains the book quite a bit: a colorful tale of great Russian writers (Babel, Chekhov, Tolstoy, Dostoevski and a few others) plus the author's experiences at home and abroad in pursuit of her literary and linguistic interests.
