El medio en que se mueve (Madrid circa 1980) es autobiográfico y él mismo es en parte el narrador. Reales son también algunos personajes como el filólogo Francisco Rico y el productor cinematográfico Harry Towers (y su peripecia en Nueva York en 1961).

Bestseller all along. It starts serious and halfway through skids out of control and credibility resents. The plot is twisting and surprises show up in time. The writing is mostly humoured and the characters all-american. I'm curious about the movie.

It's been said that it's written in his densest prose, and yes indeed, we've got molasses kind of writing here, each phrase long, rhetorical, sticky. Anyway it's beguiling too this remembrance of that lost world and how that privileged boy learnt his way in it.
