Demon Copperhead - Barbara Kingsolver

This modern-day adaptation of Dickens' David Copperfield won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction last year. It's a coming-of-age novel with a message about rural Appalachian society plus the scandal of legally prescribed addictive painkillers with nefarious consequences. It is vividly and expressively narrated in the first person by the Demon of the title.

City on Fire - Don Winslow

The city is Providence or some part of it. Danny Ryan is the central character and we are promised that this is the first book in a trilogy. Family ties and business in the mob environment. A thriller, sure enough. Many surprises in the plot.

El nuevo caso de Petra Delicado es contar su vida, nada de asesinatos. Familia, estudios, profesión, amores (tres matrimonios incluidos) dan para mucho y la narración es lo suficientemente amena. Se supone que la propia autora también está retratada, más o menos.

White Nights - Fyodor Dostoevsky

Short story. A lonely young man whose name is not mentioned, knows Nasenka, a much younger and charming lady, and falls in love, naturally. They meet and talk throughout those four white nights. The ending is certainly surprising.
