It came as quite a surprise when the author investigated the life of his Jewish great-grandfather, a dedicated chemist in Germany when the Nazis came to power, only to find a very different story from what he had expected. It was a difficult life all the same and Dunthorne depicts it in good style.

What We Can Know - Ian McEwan

What we can know about the past is limited, and possibly wrong. This dystopian novel travels to a problematic future and then takes a look back at the past, exploring climate change, poetry, and the lives of people, both then and now. It was hard to take the novel's pulse at first, but finally, I read it with pleasure.

Memorias del subsuelo - Fiódor Dostoyevski

Parece ser que "notas" o "apuntes" hubiera sido una traducción más exacta que "memorias". El narrador protagonista escribe como un potro desbocado y desbarra por momentos. No hay que tomarse todo tan a pecho, es mejor "mirar siempre el lado brillante de la vida".

The Moon is Down - John Steinbeck

As with so many others, the title is taken from Shakespeare. This is a novel written in 1942 as  a part of the war effort. The story echoes the German occupation of Norway and the brave resistance that followed. This Steinbeck knew his craft.
