Be Mine - Richard Ford

Fifth book about Frank Bascombe (character) who is now seventy-four. Quite a sad novel considering old age and that Frank tells us how he takes care of Paul, his 47-year-old son who suffers from ALS. He also reviews aspects of his life and wonders about happiness. The United States appear in all its banal splendor of franchises that are repeated throughout the country.

Impresionante primera novela del autor escrita a los 29 años y basada en sus experiencias en la guerra del Rif. El mensaje es antibelicista y plasma un escenario desolador de penurias y violencia en una sucesión de peripecias que se leen como un thriller.

Waysiders: Stories of Connatch - Seumas O'Kelly

The title gives us a clue, those waysiders are people who have been left out of the mainstream. The time is over a hundred years ago. Also there are a couple of somehow naive (nowadays) fantasy stories. O'Kelly has a way with words and his stories tend to be sad.

Cuentos romanos - Jhumpa Lahiri

Racconti romani en el original, qué bonito el italiano. Buenos, los cuentos; algunos magistrales. Roma está en el centro pero las protagonistas son, en general, mujeres llegadas de otras partes del mundo que casi siempre sufren una u otra forma de xenofobia. 

Addie Pray - Joe David Brown

Retitled Paper Moon after the movie, the narrator is an eleven-year-old orphaned girl who travels through the Deep South during the Great Depression under the care of a minor swindler (a confidence man). The main charm of the novel is that voice so natural and ready for comedy. We also learn about scams. As a literary composition is quite uneven.
