The stories that happen to Bob, Lucy, Olive and a group of family and friends living in Crosby, Maine. Old age is very present. The prose is simple, direct and effective. Enjoyable to read, although prone to sentimentality.

An acclaimed and difficult novel in three parts with some serious philosophical interludes. There are pleasant and fluid pages and others that are hard to swallow. In total a reflection on German society until its collapse at the end of the First World War.

The Meaning of Life - Terry Eagleton

One of Oxford University's Very Short Introduction books, written in an entertaining and humorous manner. Nevertheless, some parts become repetitive. Here and there we find some inspiring ideas about life, but the meaning itself is not made clear.
