And the gist of the novel is his difficult, tense, excruciating relationship with soviet power. Human fortitude and frailty combined in this lifelong confrontation masterly depicted by Mr Barnes.

Nobela oso bat baino, luzeago baten atala dela dirudi. Toure protagonistaren gorabeherak entretenigarriak dira, eta euskera atseginean kontatzen dira. Baita Bamakoko bizimoduari buruzko zehaztapenak interesgarriak dira. Baina... sakontasun falta dagoela uste dut. Ez dugu Toure benetan ezagutzen eta beste pertsonaiak lauak dira oso. Bestaldetik ez dakit beharrezkoak ote ziren gertatzen diren hainbeste hilketa beldurgarri.

Para no tener ni un punto y aparte se lee bien esta novela que no lo parece. No lo parece porque podría ser la narración de unas vidas tal como sucedieron y tal como fueron destruidas por la barbarie nazi; barbarie que nunca será suficientemente explicada y condenada. Me he acordado de Modiano. Destaca la buena mano del autor para las descripciones de ciudades y paisajes.

A number of independently published stories than altogether complete a solid memoir, mainly of the author's childhood and first youth., those years at the beginning of the last century, before the Soviet Union, in his russian homeland and in the warm embrace of a very wealthy family. There was no secret about words or moths for Vladimir.

La lengua de los secretos - Martín Abrisketa

La historia real de un niño (y su familia) arrastrado por las turbulencias de la guerra civil. Un "niño de la guerra" que revive su odisea a través del autor, su hijo. Interesante y conmovedora, aunque para mi gusto hay una sobredosis de "realismo mágico infantil". La lengua aludida en el título queda como un detalle anecdótico.

The Summer Without Men - Siri Hustvedt

This Hustvedt knows her writing; and also the whereabouts of Mia, the narrator of this novel. Mia is, I guess, a character quite close to Siri herself. And Siri Hustveld writes here about a number of themes (marriage, old age, art, bullying, woman condition...) by means of this summer that Mia passes in a little town in Minnesota.
